Hazmat Chemistry You’ll Actually Use

8 Hour Course

Summary Description

This 8-hour Experience brings to life the chemical terminology required of hazmat responders as found in 2008 NFPA 472. Rather than simply discuss the terms, responders will actually create and observe the various behaviors, and learn how these behaviors are relevant in the field at 2:00 a.m.

Chemistry You Will Actually Use includes the terms outlined in NFPA 472 including but not limited to the following concepts:

  • FORMS AND CHANGES OF MATTER
  • CHEMICAL REACTIONS
  • PHYSICAL REACTIONS
  • CRYOGENICS
  • BEHAVIORS OF COMPRESSED GAS
  • FLAMMABILITY
  • OXIDIZERS
  • CORROSIVES
  • WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION
  • COMBUSTIBLE DUSTS
  • POLYMERIZATION

Goals

The goal of this Signet North America Chemistry You’ll Actually Use Experience is to ensure that personnel will better understand the chemical terminology required of them by NFPA 472. This Experience is one very full day of interactive hands-on chemical demonstrations, explorations, explanations and real-world applications for responders at all levels. This course meets and exceeds criteria found in United States OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120(q)(6)(i)(A), 1910.120(q)(6)(ii)(C), 1910.120(q)(6)(iii)(I), and 1910.120(q)(6)(iv)(I). It also meets criteria found in 2008 NFPA 472 Chapters 5 Core Competencies for Operations Level Responders [5.2.2 (8), 5.2.3 (8), 5.2.3 (9)], Chapter 6 Mission-Specific Competencies for Operations Level Responders [6.3.3.2 (2), and Chapter 8 Competencies for Hazardous Material Technicians [8.2.2.2, 8.2.2.3].
