DESCRIPTION:*VERY FEW SPOTS AVAILABLE – CUSTOMIZED TO COLORADO’S SOUTHWEST REGION*\nFor more information and to register\, CONTACT: Corey Adamy\, Upper Pine Fire Protection District\, cadamy@upperpinefpd.org (970) 884-4073\nCustomized for the Southwest Region of Colorado\, Signet North America’s flagship NFPA 470 Hazardous Materials/WMD Technician course equips participants with the essential skills needed to respond safely and effectively to hazardous materials and WMD incidents.  These skills include hazard identification\, determining protective actions\, and utilizing specialized protective gear and equipment to mitigate a wide variety of hazmat incidents. \nCourse objectives \nSignet North America’s NFPA 470 Hazardous Materials Technician course equips participants to meet the standards outlined in Chapters 10 and 11 of the 2022 NFPA 470 standard for Hazardous Materials Technicians. \nCourse Content \nThis is a very intensive\, hands-on 80-hour Hazardous Materials Technician program focused on essential competencies for managing hazardous materials incidents.  Topics shall include but are not limited to: \n\n\n\nChemical and Physical Properties: Understanding how hazardous materials react under various conditions.\nInformation Sources: Understanding and utilizing various published and electronic hazard and response information sources.\nChemical Detection\, Monitoring\, and Sampling: Techniques for detecting and measuring airborne contaminants.\nPPE Selection: Proper selection and use of personal protective equipment based on hazard analysis.\nDecontamination Techniques: Effective methods for reducing or eliminating contamination.\nSpill and Leak Control: Approaches for containing and mitigating spills or leaks.\nContainer Identification and Handling: Knowledge of different container types and their risks.\nIncident Command: Applying the Incident Command System (ICS) to hazardous materials emergencies.\n\n\n\nRecommended Audience \nPrevious training to the Hazardous Materials Operations level is required to pursue certification at the Hazardous Materials Technician level. Upon course completion\, the attendee will receive a Certificate of Completion from Signet North America.

DESCRIPTION:**SOLD OUT — Use registration link to be added to wait list** \nREGISTER NOW AT https://sipa.tfaforms.net/321381\nSignet North America’s NFPA 470 Hazardous Materials/WMD Safety Officer course equips hazardous materials technicians with the essential knowledge and skills to serve as  Hazardous Materials/WMD Safety Officers\, as outlined in NFPA 470 Chapter 18.  It focuses on the Safety Officer’s responsibilities in managing and mitigating risks during hazardous materials and weapons of mass destruction (WMD) incidents within the Incident Command System (ICS) framework. \nCourse objectives \nSignet North America’s NFPA 470 Hazardous Materials/WMD Technician course equips participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the standards outlined in Chapter 18 of the 2022 NFPA 470 standard for Hazardous Materials/WMD Safety Officers.  In addition to practical exercises\, students will review case studies of real-world incidents to reinforce learning. The course ensures that participants can confidently manage safety operations\, enforce protocols\, and take proactive steps to minimize risks in hazardous materials or WMD incidents. \nCourse Content \nParticipants will become proficient in identifying potential hazards\, assessing risks\, and implementing safety controls to protect responders and the public. The course covers a broad range of topics\, including but not limited to: \n\n\n\nIncident risk analysis and safety planning\nCompliance with OSHA\, EPA\, and other relevant regulations\nPersonal protective equipment (PPE) selection and monitoring\nAir monitoring and decontamination procedures\nSafety briefings and safety officer roles in ICS\nStrategies for mitigating chemical\, biological\, radiological\, nuclear\, and explosive (CBRNE) threats\nPost-incident safety evaluations and reporting\n\n\n\nRecommended Audience \nPrevious training to the Hazardous Materials/WMD Technician level is required to serve in the role of the Hazardous Materials/WMD Safety Officer level.
